CD14+CD16- or classical monocytes constitute the majority (80%) of all monocytes and have phagocytic function, and secrete reactive oxygen species, pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in response to toll-like receptor-4 stimulation. Cells are sourced from healthy donors from world-renowned blood institutions using Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved consent forms and protocols. Donors are screened for HIV-1, HIV-2, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human T-lymphotropic virus, syphilis, Chagas and West Nile virus.
