Luminex Assay®

Originally developed by Luminex Corporation in Austin, Texas, the Luminex® xMAP® platform revolutionized biomarker discovery with its bead-based multiplexing technology. This system enables simultaneous detection and quantification of dozens to hundreds of analytes—such as cytokines, chemokines, and proteins—from a single small-volume sample. In 2021, Luminex became part of DiaSorin S.p.A., a global leader in diagnostics, further expanding its innovation in multiplex immunoassay solutions.

Luminex assay enables high-throughput, multiplex bead-based assays that allow simultaneous analysis of multiple analytes (proteins and mRNA) in a single sample—using as little as 10 μL from human, mouse, or other sources. This powerful technology enables detection of:

a) ~150 mouse cytokines/chemokines
b) ~300 human cytokines/chemokines
c) Proteins involved in cancer, apoptosis, inflammation, immunity, diabetes, kidney toxicity, and more
d) Histone modifications, transcription factor activity, gene expression, and DNA copy number variation

Quantitative detection of cytokines, chemokines, cancer biomarkers, and signaling proteins in lysates, serum, plasma, and supernatants
Simultaneous multiplexing — detect proteins, peptides, or nucleic acids in a single sample volume with reproducible results
Phosphorylation & post-translational insights — interrogate multiple protein modifications in one assay
High-throughput capability — our FlexMAP 3D and Luminex-200 systems analyze hundreds of biomolecules from >10 μL samples in 96- or 384-well formats

Color-coded microspheres allow simultaneous detection of dozens to hundreds of biomarkers, delivering high-throughput, reliable results from minimal sample volume.

Use Luminex® for 1) Cytokine or chemokine profiling 2) Confirming known biomarkers 3) High-throughput, cost-effective quantification
