CD16⁺ monocytes consist of non-classical (CD14^– CD16⁺) and intermediate (CD14⁺ CD16⁺) monocytes. Non classical monocytes have a higher activity in response to viruses and produce pro-inflammatory cytokines through TLR-8 and TLR-9 while intermediate monocytes are associated with T helper 2 responses. Cells are sourced from healthy donors from world-renowned blood institutions using Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved consent forms and protocols. Donors are screened for HIV-1, HIV-2, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human T-lymphotropic virus, syphilis, Chagas and West Nile virus.
