Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are crucial for the maintenance of immunologic tolerance to self and foreign antigen. Additionally, they prevent immunopathology after infection resolution by down regulating immune response. Their immunosuppressive abilities are attributed to their production of inhibitory cytokines such as interleukin 10 and transforming growth factor β. Cells are sourced from healthy donors from world-renowned blood institutions using Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved consent forms and protocols. Donors are screened for HIV-1, HIV-2, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human T-lymphotropic virus, syphilis, Chagas and West Nile virus.
