Monocytes circulate through the bloodstream to different tissues, where they differentiate into tissue-resident macrophages and dendritic cells. After differentiation, they acquire phagocytic and antigen presentation capabilities enabling them to participate in in both innate and adaptive immunity. Cells are sourced from healthy donors from world-renowned blood institutions using Institutional Review Board (IRB)-approved consent forms and protocols. Donors are screened for HIV-1, HIV-2, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human T-lymphotropic virus, syphilis, Chagas and West Nile virus.
